On Thursday 12 June, 2014, Canterbury Christ Church hosted the first inaugural “Energy and Governance” Workshop, the first of many to come, organised by Dr. Amelia Hadfield on the basis of her decades worth of experience in the UK and the EU regarding Energy and Governance. The group will look to promote research within the university and robustly with external partners attendance were well-known experts on energy and governance, drawn from various organizations, think tanks and universities in both the United Kingdom and Europe. Speakers included Professor Andrej Zwitter from Groningen University in the Netherlands, Dr Caroline Kuzemko from the University of Exeter, Mr Joseph Dutton from Argus Media in the United Kingdom and Mr Dario Cristiani, a representative from the Global Governance Institute in Brussels who co-sponsored this event alongside Canterbury Christ Church University.
The workshop was divided into three major themes, exploring definitions of governance, UK energy governance and EU energy governance. As part of the REIF and QR funding for the Energy and Governance group, a small number of workshop-specific Energy & Governance Briefing Notes will be prepared over the course of the summer by rapporteur and research intern Sara Martone, and posted on this blog. The group will also aim to have its own simple series of webpages hosting videos and audio, as well as the Briefing Notes. Please be aware that there will be an upcoming event in the autumn term of 2014 as well, sometime in November.
